About me
I’m Selam Tesfaye, born on 17 October 1992 in a military camp in Harar, in eastern Ethiopia, to Tigrayan parents. I grew up in Humera, and when I moved to Addis Ababa I spoke only Tigrinya, so I taught myself Amharic to be able to act in films.
My breakout came with Sost Maezen (Triangle) in 2013. Since then I’ve played leading roles in dramas, romances and comedies, and in Crumbs, directed by Miguel Llansó and promoted as the first Ethiopian-made science-fiction film.
I won Best Actress at the 9th Addis Music Awards in 2018 for Yabedech Yarada Lij, and I’m proud to have been recognised at the Gumma Film Awards.
