About
Tewodros Kassahun, known to the world as Teddy Afro, was born in Addis Ababa on 14 July 1976 into a musical family: his father, Kassahun Germamo, is a singer-songwriter.
He began releasing music in 1999 with his first album, Lebo, followed by Abugida in 2001 and Yasteseryal in 2005, and became one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated artists, blending reggae with the traditional sounds of the Ethiopian highlands. Tikur Sew (2012) and Ethiopia (2017) are landmarks of modern Ethiopian music, and Ethiopia reached number one on Billboard’s World Albums chart in May 2017.
In April 2026 he released Etorika, his sixth studio album, on his official YouTube channel.
